A homing pigeon breeder in Lanzhou, Gansu province, decided to spare a sneaky owl that ate about 100 of his birds.
The man, surnamed Xu, has been raising pigeons for more than 20 years, and about a month ago, he started to notice two birds disappeared each morning.
At first, he suspected thieving neighbors, but after stronger cages didn't help, he decided to stay up all night to guard the cage when he discovered the owl swooping in for his meal.
He decided to let the owl, which enjoys national protection, keep its freedom.
"I will put some meat next to my cage in order to both protect my pigeons and provide food for the owl." Xu said.
