All about Tibet

All about TibetIf you can't travel to Tibet for dinner, well, it seems that Tibet delivers. Which is to say, if you're longing for a fantasy montage of picturesque landscapes and rich cultural performances with your lamb, then Zhaxinima Tibet Performance Bar & Grill is the place.

Decorated with traditional prayer flags, gold draperies and a large copper drum, the restaurant's interior is rather dazzling; in contrast, our meal was unequivocally dismal. A Tibetan staple, boiled mutton (RMB 38), looked and tasted old and tough. And the Tibetan fried rice (RMB 18), a mix of sultanas, green peas and red beans, was mushy, though we did note the chef had balanced the flavors quite nicely. The best of a bad lot, the minced lamb egg rolls (RMB 38) were, at least, palatable. While the two-hour performance gave us a 'taste' for Tibetan culture, the food itself made us think twice about our 'one of these days'trek to Lhasa.
