Vegetarian: Godly Vegetarian By Michael Ohlsson (CityWeekend) Updated: 2006-06-09 11:59
Shanghai's Godly Vegetarian Restaurant has opened a new budget location
specializing in noodle soups and take-out pastries.
The cozy five-table spot sits on a quiet, shady corner
and every dish on the menu goes for RMB 10 or less. The soup selection is
limited to only five varieties that are all quite similar, and, while light and
refreshing, are not a meal. Our soups came with a side of oily root vegetables
marinated in brown gravy-this absence of anything green left us severely
wanting. We ordered the vegetarian duck (RMB 9), which came to our table in a
disposable plastic tub, and found it overly greasy. In sum, a welcome addition
for vegetarians who crave lard-less take-out pastries or a cheap bowl of noodle
soup, but certainly not a destination.
