Recycling stores to openShanghai will open 10 recycling stores this year to collect old electronic appliances, as an effort to stop the environmental damage caused by dumping, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.

The news was released during a Shanghai Federation of Industrial Economics council conference yesterday.

Residents who bring their used electronics to the store will receive 50 yuan (US$6.25) to 70 yuan per item to encourage their environmentally friendly behavior.

The first recycling store may open near Zhongxing Rd and Baoshan Rd in Zhabei District. It will collect a wide range of electronic products.

The city generates over 100,000 tons of electronic waste every year, the federation said.
