LONDON -- A British government minister says Group of 20 leaders meeting in London must agree on clear action to tackle the economic crisis -- or risk mounting public anger.

Foreign minister Mark Malloch Brown told the Associated Press on Wednesday that vague promises won't be enough to show that political leaders can find a path out of the global downturn.

World leaders gather in London next week for the one-day meeting on April 2. Malloch Brown is Britain's chief envoy to the summit.

He said leaders need to agree to specific action and guard against empty promises that they cannot keep. The minister insisted the summit must also stand by commitments on aid for the developing world.
