A group of residents came out Saturday spontaneously to clear barricades erected by radicals on the Pok Fu Lam Road near the University of Hong Kong main campus on Hong Kong Island.
Anti-government rioters' recent violent acts are one step closer to terrorism, a police spokesman said on Thursday. The remark by John Tse Chun-chung, chief superintendent of the Police Public Relations Branch at a media briefing, came as Hong Kong endured the fourth consecutive day of widespread vandalism to the city's transportation systems and university campuses, as well as indiscriminate attacks on people in Hong Kong.
On Nov 17, rioters set fire on a pedestrian flyover at Hung Hom, causing multiple explosions loud enough to be heard from a block away. They threw firebombs that set an armored police vehicle on fire. In a statement, the police said that the rioters threw tens of gasoline bombs at the police within just half an hour.
On Nov 17 in Hung Hom, rioters attacked police officers with lethal weapons fired from their stronghold in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. They rampantly hurled petrol bombs at pedestrian flyovers at Cross Harbour Tunnel to fend off the police, causing a wall of fire and multiple explosions.
The violence in Hong Kong has escalated since June. Political leaders and people from all walks of life have constantly called for an end to the violence and chaos in Hong Kong.
Last Friday marked the fourth day CUHK was under siege, John Tse Chun-chung, chief superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch in Hong Kong, said. "The school has become a breeding ground for criminals and rioters," he added.
Despite the escalation of violence, many residents came forward to clear road barricades and mourned a cleaner killed by rioters in a bid to say "no" to violence.

The rioters even used bows, bricks and arrows to indiscriminately attack police and journalists. A policeman was shot in the leg with an arrow.
