Employers in Beijing who fire female employees for having a second child illegally are not supported by the law.

According to The Mirror, the No.2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing said on Friday that there is no clause in the city's regulations that employers can lay off their employees if they violate the family planning policy.

But in areas like Jiangxi province, employers are supported by their regional law to fire workers who violate family planning policy, the court added.

In 2014, most provincial regions relaxed family planning to allow couples to have a second child if one of the parents was an only child.

But there has been some argument that a comprehensive two-child policy should be put in place because a lower-than-expected number of couples chose not to have a second child even if they were eligible.
