The average age of first marriage in Beijing has risen to 27, one year older than three years ago, China News Service reported.

According to most psychologists, work pressure, faster modern lifestyles and the economic development of China are all contributing to people getting married later. Also, people born after the 1980s are less mature mentally than their parents and they have a longer study plan, all of which contribute to the late marriage.

Wu Pei, an official of the marriage registration office in Beijing said that the divorce rate in Beijing ranks 24, which is less than the amount in China's many cities and provinces such as Shanghai and Guangdong province.
