The film has been acclaimed at the 68th Venice Film Festival and at the Golden Horse Award in 2011, and is scheduled for public showing in the Chinese mainland in March.

Centering around the tear-jerking story of a mother and son, like people who have no blood ties, the film is about caring for the elderly. Lau is believed to have achieved a new high point of his acting career with the film.

"I've been feeling a lot when working with the crew of the film, mostly my old friends," Lau said, "so I kept recording those thoughts.

"I saw an old-styled lantern in the scene celebrating the mid-autumn festival," Lau writes in the book. "It's just like the ones that were popular when I was young, which made me nostalgic and brought back memories that have faded."

Besides the diaries that talk about the star's real life, the book also contains unpublished photos.
