A network of 250,000 surveillance cameras officially went into use on Dec 29 after a video surveillance system passed the final check in Wuhan city, capital of Central China's Hubei province, Hubei Daily reported Thursday.

The construction of the surveillance system was launched in September 2009 and cost more than 1 billion yuan ($158 million).

During the trial operation, the system uses cloud computing and storing to network, and has helped the local police solve more than 500 street robbery cases and the recent bombing case near a bank on Dec 1.
