CHENGDU- A traffic accident killed 17 people, including a child, and injured two others in a remote county in Southwest China's Sichuan province Wednesday, local authorities said.

The "major traffic accident," which involved a "farm vehicle" with 19 people aboard happened at about 1:35 pm in Egu township of Yajiang county in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Garze, the Sichuan provincial Work Safety Bureau announced in a statement.

The injured had been rushed to a hospital in Yajiang, the statement said.
