The 77-year-old Jiang Deji, who lives in Jiuzhai village, Quanzhou county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, started fixing things when he was 16. During the resource-scarce periods, few peasants would discard their leaky pots and pans. However, since the reform and opening up was launched in 1978 , people have turned to electric cookers and pressure cookers, and pan tinkers are no longer part of their daily lives. Nowadays, Jiang Deji’s customers are usually older people who went through the resource-scarce periods and have thrifty habits ingrained into them.
