New recruitment policy for rural students

An independent college entrance enrollment plan specially targeting students with rural permanent residences was released on the official website of Renmin University of the Republic of China, on Oct 28, 2011, Beijing News reports.

According to the plan, “headmaster recommendation scheme”and “making your dream come true program”will be used for the university’s 2012 enrollment. Recommended candidates by school headmasters can enter interviews conducted by the university directly and if they pass, they will get enrolled given they pass the provincial score line in the 2012 national college entrance exam.

Besides academic requirement, being ranked in the top 10 and having potential for future development, eligible applicants should come from families with no college students in the past three generations.

An expert panel of Renmin University will be set up to evaluate the candidates’performance based on their scores, contest wins, social work participation and personal statement. The interview will be held in Beijing, and for students from financially distressed families, the university will cover part of the transportation expenses.
