ZHENGZHOU - The police of central Henan province announced Tuesday they had cracked 148 cases and detained 246 suspects during two special campaigns against the illegal use or production of explosives.
Of the total cases, 63 were initially reported by the public while the remaining cases were cracked during a carpet inspection over the province's 3,929 business engaged in the production of dangerous goods against the illegal manufacturing, transportation, trade, storage and use of explosives, according to a statement of the provincial public security department.
The campaigns came after the province was hit by a series of deadly accidents. On January 19, a fireworks factory explosion in Luohe city killed nine and injured 21. On April 26, a blast in a residential community of Pingdingshan City killed eight and injured 17. On June 5, another blast in Liyuan Village of Anyang City killed four and injured two.
A police investigation showed the causes of the blasts had direct links with the illegal storage of explosives. In the Pingdingshan case, 25 people have been detained, said the statement.
