China's defense ministry website kicks off

BEIJING - The official website of China's Ministry of National Defense, www.mod.gov.cn, kicked off its full operation on Monday after two years of trial operation.

The website, authorized by the Central Military Commission, features authoritative and up-to-date defense information, including defense expenditures, national defense white papers, and the ministry's routine press conferences, according to a notice posted on the website. The site features simplified and traditional Chinese characters, as well as English.

The website is also available in mobile-phone edition.

Over the two-year trial operation, it averaged more than 10 million daily clicks.

Also unveiled to the public is the revamped China military net, www. chinamil.com.cn, a website that has been run by the PLA Daily for 12 years.

The revamped Chinamil changed from a 4-screened frontpage to an 8-screened frontpage, from 13 channels to 85, 325 columns to 1,233.

Monday marks the 84th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China.
