HOTAN, Xinjiang - A memorial ceremony for the armed police officer killed in Monday's police station attack was held Friday morning in Hotan city of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
Wu Yanjie, who served in the fifth detachment of the Xinjiang Armed Police Corps, was killed when he along with other armed police officers and regular police launched a counter-attack on rioters.
Police officers from the fifth detachment and hundreds of local civilians attended the ceremony.
Wu, who was born in Fugou county of Central China's Henan province in November of 1989, joined the army in December 2009.
Zhou Lahe, political commissar of the fifth detachment, said Wu was an excellent armed police officer with a good sense of responsibility.
The Xinjiang Armed Police Corps Committee of the Chinese Communist Party named Wu as a revolutionary martyr.
Rioters killed four people including Wu, a security guard, a woman and a teenage girl, and injured four others, while police shot dead 14 rioters and rescued six hostages around noon Monday.
