New Chinese ambassador presents credentials to Fijian president

SUVA -- New Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Huang Yong on Monday presented his credentials to Fijian President Ratu Epeli Nailaticau.

During the meeting, Nailaticau expressed his warm welcome to Huang and asked the ambassador to convey his best regards to Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Chinese people.

Nailaticau spoke highly of the Fiji-China relations which have experienced robust development in recent years. He said China is the true friend of Fiji, who has been giving support and assistance to Fiji's development.

The Fijian president also happily recalled his personal involvement in the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Fiji and China in 1970s.

Huang conveyed the greetings from President Hu Jintao to President Nailaticau and expressed his willingness to work with the Fijian side to promote the friendly relations between the two countries.

The ambassador expressed his appreciation of the cooperation and coordination between China and Fiji in regional and international affairs, while thanking the president himself for his contributions to the development of the Sino-Fijian ties.

Later in the day, Ambassador Huang also paid courtesy calls to Fiji's Prime Minister Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama and Acting Foreign Minister Filipe Bole.

Huang arrived in Fiji on Saturday.
