China amends laws for ratification of ICCPR

BEIJING -- China has amended laws to prepare the ground for the ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), according to a report issued by the Information Office of the State Council, or China's cabinet, on Thursday.

China is carrying out legislative and judicial reforms. It amended the Law on Lawyers and the Law on State Compensation to prepare the ground for the ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, says the report titled Assessment Report on the National Human Rights Action Plan of China (2009-2010).
