4 removed from duty for confining villager

Four people have been removed from office in Henan province for confining a villager, who filed a petition against the Daliu township government in Luohe, in a mental hospital for 6 years and a half, chinanews.com.cn reported Wednesday.

Xu Lindong, a villager of Daliu township, was sent to a mental hospital by the township government by force in October 2003 after he helped his disabled neighbor file a petition against the township government, reports said.

The four that were removed from office were: Shi Hongtao, Party secretary of Daliu township; Yang Yaoqin, deputy Party secretary of Daliu township; Chen Huijun, director of Daliu township's office of letters and calls, and Song Changxing, director of Daliu township's family planning office.
