The number of the injured was yet not available, said a traffic police officer surnamed Luo.

The accident occurred at about 6:30 am in Leiyang City, Hunan Province, when the trucks were heading south.

Traffic police designated lanes on the south-to-north side of the highway for traffic from both directions, he said.

Luo said police were investigating the cause of the accident.

The Beijing-Zhuhai highway extends more than 2,000 km from the capital to the coastal city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province.
