HANGZHOU: Police in an east China county on Monday offered a reward for information on five missing children, after hundreds of policemen and civilians combing mountains and villages failed to find them.

The police in Tiantai county of Zhejiang province confirmed they have offered 50,000 yuan ($7,322) for information on the children, who have been missing for five days.

The police said they have collected DNA samples from the children's families to prepare for a search in neighboring regions.

The children's disappearance was reported by Cai Xiuming and Cai Xiutong, two brothers in Xialuwang village, Tiantai county, on Thursday.

They told police Cai Xiutong's 13-year-old daughter took three of her sisters and brothers as well as Cai Xiuming's younger son to visit a friend in Tongyi village, which is only 1 km away from Cai's home.

Villagers were mobilized to search for the children, after the girl's mother said she could not find them one hour after they left.

The parents told police the children did not fight at home.
