Guo Jingyi, a former inspector at the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, was prosecuted for taking bribes of 6 million yuan (US$879,000) in cash and 1.65 million yuan in real estate property, the Beijing Evening News reported on Friday.

Guo, 44, a law graduate from Peking University, served at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation before he was promoted to the Department of Treaty and Law at the Ministry of Commerce, the youngest bureau-level officer then.

He was taken away from his post on August 13, 2008, along with two of his business dealers.
