Disaster-led loss hits $37B in 2009

Natural disasters cost 1,528 lives and 252.37 billion yuan (US$36.97 billion) in China last year, according to latest statistics released by Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs, Xinhua reported.
The loss is down four percent from that of last year, the ministry said. In face of those adversities, national relief funds reached 14 billion yuan (US$2.05 billion) in 2009.
