Gang boss lawyer appeal set for Feb 2

The second trial of Beijing lawyer Li Zhuang will be held at Chongqing No.1 Intermediate People's Court at 9:30 am on Feb 2, the Changjiang Daily reported Saturday.

Gang boss lawyer appeal set for Feb 2Chongqing's crackdown on gangs to continue

Li was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for instructing his client, Gong Gangmo, the alleged Chongqing gang boss, to fabricate evidence of police torture earlier this year. Li filed an appeal on Jan 18.

Li's attorney, Gao Zicheng, said he received a formal notice from the court on Jan 29, and then flew to Chongqing to meet the imprisoned Li, who was "in good condition" and ready for a second round in court.

Gao also said he would plead not guilty on behalf of his client and provide new evidence.

Wen Qiang will go on public trial on Feb 2 on charges accusing him of being involved in mafia-style gangs and organized crime at Chongqing No.1 Intermediate People's Court.
