HANGZHOU: Eight people went missing Wednesday after they were washed away by tidal waves in east China's Zhejiang Province, local authorities said.
Rapidly rising tide water trapped and carried away a migrant worker from southwestern Yunnan Province and nine of the worker's family members and friends down an embankment in Ganpu Township of Haiyan County, said a county spokesman.
The 10 people went more than 200 meters away from the embankment to watch the magnificent tide before they found themselves surrounded by water, he said.
Two of them were rescued by two nearby fishermen. Rescuers are searching for the eight missing people, the spokesman added without giving further details.
