BEIJING - China is "strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to" the US statement on the 1989 political disturbance in Beijing, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang here Thursday.

When asked to comment on the recent statement by a spokesman of the State Department of the United States, Qin said there has already been a clear conclusion about the incident.

He said that in the past nearly 20 years, China has acquired social stability, economic growth and continuous progress in democracy and legal system, and the Chinese people have enjoyed all basic human rights in accordance with laws.

The Chinese government and people will unswervingly advance along the path of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, said Qin.

He said the US has kept criticizing China year after year for no reason, which severely violates the basic norms guiding international relations and roughly interferes in China's internal affairs.

"China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to it," said Qin.

"We request that the US correct its wrong immediately and stop putting obstacles to the development of Sino-US relations," added Qin.
