During the visit, Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with Medvedev, in which the two heads of state spoke highly of the establishment and development of the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of coordination and vowed to jointly make further efforts to push forward this partnership.

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo, top political advisor Jia Qinglin and Vice President Xi Jinping also met with Medvedev.

After the talks, Hu and Medvedev signed a joint statement on major international issues and attended the signing ceremony for several documents on bilateral cooperation in such fields as energy, aviation, forestry and tourism.

The two countries also issued a joint communique on the talks of the two heads of state.

Medvedev also laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tian'anmen Square and gave a speech at Peking University.

On behalf of the Russian government, Medvedev also invited some primary and middle-school students from the quake-hit areas to recover in Russia.

As a guest of Hu, Medvedev started his first China visit on Friday afternoon.

He was the first head of state to pay a state visit to China since the devastating earthquake hit southwest China's Sichuan Province on May 12.

The trip was also Medvedev's first visit outside the Commonwealth of Independent States since he was sworn in on May 7.
