Farm vehicle accident killed 28 in southwest China

GUIYANG  -- A farm vehicle plunged into a river in the southwestern province of Guizhou on Thursday, leaving 28 people dead and 15 others injured, local police said.

The accident happened at about 11:00 a.m. in Yaoshang Town, Qinnan Prefecture of Buyi and Miao Nationality, when the vehicle, carrying 43 people, plunged into a river.

Rescuers have recovered 28 bodies. The injured, three of whom were seriously hurt, were hospitalized.

The driver, Guan Heming, a native of Chashan Village of Yaoshang Town, sustained minor injuries.

Most of the passengers were also from that village and were traveling to another town for a banquet.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
