Shares weakened 1.84%, investor sentiment dampened by earthquake

BEIJING - Chinese shares declined 1.84 percent on Tuesday, as investors felt uncertain of earthquake impact on companies, analysts said.

A total of 66 companies stopped trading on Tuesday, including 45 on Shanghai bourse and 21 on Shenzhen.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 3,560.24 points, down 66.74 points, from the previous close.

The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 13,074.23 points, down 91.87 points, or 0.7 percent.
