A chef surnamed Jiang had to undergo surgery on his right eye after being savagely pecked by a wild bird in Foshan, Guangdong province, on Thursday.

A customer had brought the unidentified bird in to Jiang's restaurant, hoping to have it made into a dish. That's when the 500 g black bird attacked, lunging for the chef's eye.

Jiang said he felt a terrible pain and had to be sent to hospital for treatment.

Doctors said Jiang's right eye had been seriously wounded and it was still unknown whether he would see properly again, even though the surgery was otherwise successful.
