As the unusually severe weather continues in parts of China, a young couple that had been stranded on the snowbound Jingzhu Highway for more than five days in the southern province of Guangdong held a special wedding ceremony on the coach, the New Express Daily reported.

Hu Yuan and Re Wene got on the bus last Thursday to go back to their hometown in East China's Anhui Province for their wedding over the weekend, never expecting the traffic to be at a standstill for almost a week.

According to the local custom, the wedding date can not be changed and so their families held a ceremony without the groom and bride.

To make up for their disappointment, passengers on the coach held a simple ceremony for them. Someone found a piece of red cloth to cover up the head of the bride, as is usually done in traditional Chinese weddings. With the passengers singing "Happy wedding to you", the groom lifted the bride's veil and all the passengers cheered.

Latest reports say part of the Jingzhu Highway has started traffic slowly on Wednesday night.
