An ambulance driver greatly upset the family of a patient surnamed Chen when he stopped halfway to the hospital to take a nap in Hainan province over the weekend.

Chen's family called an ambulance from Hainan People's Hospital in Haikou after Chen broke a bone while working on Saturday night. They paid all the fees for the service.

To their dismay, the driver stopped on the way to Haikou for a 30-minute nap, despite protests from Chen's family.

The nurse and another medical professional refused to ask the driver to wake up.

When they complained to the hospital in Sanya, they were told the ambulance driver would not have stopped if Chen's life had been in danger.
