Guangdong to build 20b yuan offshore wind farm

China Guangdong Baolihua New Energy Co is going to build China's largest offshore wind farm with an investment of 20 billion yuan ($3 billion) in Lufeng city, Guangdong province, China News Service reported on Thursday.

The project will have a capacity of 1.25 million kilowatts and a projected area of 240 square kilometers, the report said.

Wind power is gaining rapid growth in China. By the end of 2008, wind turbines had a total capacity of 12.17 million kiloawatts and the on-grid electricity reached 14.8 billion kilowatt hours. The capacity ranked the fourth place in the world, according to the report.
