BYD Company Ltd was established in 1995 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2002. It became the world's second largest rechargeable battery manufacturer in 2003 and applications of its nickel and lithium-ion batteries for mobile phones rose to the top of the global market the same year. In 2003, BYD Auto Ltd was founded as a subsidiary of BYD Company Ltd.

Management

Wang Chuanfu, born in 1966, studied chemistry at the Central South Industrial University of Technology and went on to earn a master's degree in 1990 from the Beijing Non-Ferrous Research Institute. Wang spent several years as a researcher, but in 1995 he entered the private sector and founded his own company, BYD Company.
