Hong Kong stocks tumble 2.59% on Feb 19

HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks dropped 528.13 points, or 2.59 percent to close at 19,894.02 on Friday, following an unexpected move by the US Federal Reserve to raise interest rates for emergency bank loans.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened at 20,261.49 and soon plunged under the 20,000-point level. The index once lost over 540 points and finished the session near the day low of 19,874.55.

Turnover expanded to HK$42.87 billion (about $5.52 billion), compared to HK$34 billion of the previous session.
