Chinese, Japanese firms ink cartoon distribution deal

Beijing Glorious Animation Co Ltd today signed a cartoon distribution deal with Japan's Future Planet Co at the 4th International Cartoon and Animation Festival which will last from April 28 to May 3, 2008 in Hangzhou.

According to the agreement, Future Planet will serve as a global distribution agent for Qin-Han Heroes, a cartoon series being developed by Beijing Glorious.

Zhou Fengying, general manger of Beijing Glorious, said that the partnership will leverage the successful cooperation between the two sides on the creation of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a 52-serial cartoon film adapted from one of the Four Major Famous Chinese Works.

Production of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms will be fully done before the end of 2008. Starting June, the cartoon will be broadcast on mainsteam TVs in China and Japan. So far, more than 30 TV stations from 13 countries have expressed interest in broadcasting the film, said Zhou.

Beijing Glorious, an animation subsidiary under CCTV, has developed many popular cartoons, including Journey to the West, another adaptation of one of the Four Major Famous Chinese Works.

Zhou said the company also has plans to develop The Red Mansion and Heroes of the Marshes, the remaining two of the four works, and is welcoming investors to cooperate on the distribution rights.
