China's top legislative and political advisory body started its annual sessions, kicking off an important political season that will highlight new missions for the country's goal of a "great modern socialist country".

The question of artificial intelligence and science and technology innovation were high on the agenda for the weekend's meeting held by Wan Gang, minister of science and technology, on the sidelines of the 13th National People's Congress.

Artificial Intelligence

China will strengthen the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to solve security, health, environment and other key public issues, said Wan Gang, science and technology minister, on Saturday (March 10).

In the future, China will strengthen its AI research and train a new generation of talents to tackle key and frontier AI-related science issues. China will soon publish a guideline on AI research and technologies for solving these key issues, Wan said.

China's science and technology minister said on Saturday that the government had made an open-source platform to boost the development of artificial intelligence (AI), as part of a plan to make China a world-leader in this field by 2030.

He said that offering AI on open-source platforms would help with its scientific development and help it rapidly expand, allowing the creation of a new generation of AI.
