AMMAN: Jordan's first children hospital specialized in providing medical treatment in an array of pediatric specialties was inaugurated on Sunday.

The military-run hospital dubbed "Queen Rania Hospital for Children," has a total built-up area of 29,000 square meters and is also home to an 8-bed emergency room for children, according to its Director Brigadier General Maen Habashne.

Located within the vicinity of the military-run King Hussein Medical Center, the 200-bed hospital was built at a total cost of about $45 million.

"The state of the art hospital, which is fully supplied with latest advanced equipment, will provide its services to children in Jordan and Arab countries," said Habashne, adding that the medical facility will cooperate with others hospitals in the Arab world for receiving children with "serious and very complicated" diseases.

"This is the first hospital that offers all medical specialties in one facility and it will be one of Jordan's medical landmarks," Habashne said prior to the opening of the hospital.
