BANGKOK - The Thai Election Commision (EC) on Saturday decided that the advance voting for the February 2 election is going to be held as scheduled on Sunday.

The EC met on Saturday and decided to go ahead with the well-planned advance voting after the Constitutional Court on Friday ruled the February 2 election could be deferred.

The Constitutional Court on Friday reached an unanimous decision in favor of the polling agency which had requested for the rescheduling of the nationwide polls following earlier unrests in capital Bangkok and southern provinces.

Anti-government protesters staged demonstrations to disrupt the nationwide polls and force acting premier Yingluck Shinawatra to step down since the last few months.

In another step, the EC will meet with Yingluck on Tuesday to discuss the postponement, according to caretaker Deputy PM Phongthep Thepkanjana on Saturday. However, the specific time and venue of the meeting is unknown yet.
