UN chief lists climate pact top priority for 2010

UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced here on Monday that his top priorities for this year will be promoting sustainable development and negotiating a legally binding pact on climate change.

The secretary-general made the announcement at a press conference to outline his priorities for the new year at the temporary office, commissioned early Monday as part of the renovation of the UN Secretarian building.

Ban also said that he will make great efforts to protect the legal rights of women and children in armed conflict areas and work toward a nuclear-free world.
