Sichuan holds show of gratitude

On May 12th, girls of the Qiang nationality performed a show at the Shanghai Expo's Sichuan pavilion, to show gratitude to people who helped them after the Wenchuan earthquake two years ago.

Yi Yang( Deputy Director of Sichuan Pavilion): "Today is the second anniversary of th Wenchuan earthquake. We are having this event to mourn for the people we have lost, to show you what we have achieved, and to say thank you to the people who have been there supporting us."

Girl of Qiang nationality, Yang Jiali: "Today, we want to sing, we want to dance, and most of all we want to say thanks. We want people to know that we are doing fine now. We have moved to our new homes. Today, apart from the handicrafts , we also brought our special product, red cherries. We hand-picked them before we came here, we want to give them to the people who had helped us."

People of the Qiang nationality mainly live in Tibet and Sichuan.

The Wenchuan earthquake of May12 in 2008 brought devastating havoc to the Qiang nationality of Beichuan and Wenchuan.

Qiang handicrafts are outstanding among minority groups. As early as the Ming (1368 - 1644) and Qing (1644 - 1911) Dynasties, their embroidery and carpet weaving were well known. Qiang handicrafts are listed as part of the nation's intangible cultural heiritage.
