The first stage of construction on the Yuelai Sewage Treatment Plant recently got underway and is expected to enter operations at the end of 2016.

According to a senior staff member from Yuelai Group, the first stage project of Yuelai Sewage Treatment Plant has received a total investment of 285 million yuan ($44.77 million).

Statistics show that the daily sewage treatment capacity of the new sewage station is expected to reach 50,000 cubic meters in near future, while long-term planning suggests that the daily treatment capacity will reach 100,000 cubic meters. It is expected that the station will serve an area of 79.3 square kilometers, including the Huagoupian area.

Upon the completion of the project, 4,000 cubic meters of water will be recycled every year for the use of agriculture and manufacturing. At the top of the plant, an ecological park will be constructed for the enjoyment of local citizens.

Yuelai Sewage Treatment Plant will act as an important piece of infrastructure in supporting Liangjiang New Area's construction as a "sponge city" and "ecological city". "Sponge cities" are national projects that have been launched to make full use of rainwater potential in energy and conservation.
