This year's Meiyuan Cup International Exlibris Invitation Exhibition started on Nov 28 in Lujiazui Financial City's cultural center, Shanghai, with 390 works from 110 artists from 15 countries on display for two weeks. China's famous painter Zhou Dongshen also exhibited hundreds of works.
The Meiyuan Cup exlibris exhibition has been held for more than 10 years. This year it received many more exhibition works than usual and became a cultural feast.
Exlibris, a Latin word meaning "private collection", is used to indicate the ownership of books artistically. It's referred to as "pearls on print" for the delicate value as miniature engraving. It was first introduced into China in the 1920s, and rose to popularity again in the early 1980s.
Lujiazui has been striving to work out several characteristic cultural activities, including the highly regarded exlibris exhibition and workshops, which cultivates a large group of exlibris lovers and finds allies in young artists every year.
