When the city of Haikou, Hainan province put on a "Datong Day" activity as part of a national promotion of Shanxi provincial brands, Dec 12-15, it saw on-the-spot sales reach 90,000 yuan ($14,500), and other deals worth 1.2 million yuan. Sponsors of the activity were the commerce departments of Shanxi and Hainan, with the city of Datong, Shanxi handling the arrangements. The focus was on Shanxi commodities as a way to improve people's lives, with hundreds of goods from 33 enterprises on display. This was Shanxi's biggest commodity fair this year and saw the largest number of merchants.
