A total of 4.42 million tons of standard coal equivalents was saved in 2013 by nearly 1,000 enterprises in North China's Shanxi province, according to the Shanxi Commission of Economy and Information Technology on Oct 31.

The provincial government has examined the enterprises’ performance in completing their energy conservation targets in 2013 recently. There were 1,147 major coal-consuming units included in Shanxi’s 1,000-enterprises energy-saving and low-carbon plan in 2013; 932 of them were examined this year.

To date, from 2011 to 2013, the 1,000-enterprises energy-saving campaign has saved a total of 14.73 million tons in standard coal equivalents, accounting for 67.35 percent of the province’s energy-conservation target during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), which is 21.87 million tons.

The government’s assessment on these enterprises not only included energy-conserving targets but also energy-saving measure implementation in the enterprises. In addition to industrial enterprises, the provincial Commission of Economy and Information Technology also checked the energy-conserving performance of schools, hotels and restaurants and other types of enterprises through cooperation with other governmental organs, such as the Department of Education and the Department of Commerce.
