Datong Museum, the first cultural construction project in Yudong District, was started on May 18, 2010. The main structure was finished on July 30, 2011 and the whole project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

Bai Shuanping, Deputy Commander of the construction project, introduced the museum's plan and progress and noted its significance as a future landmark for the city.

Currently, outdoor walls and interior equipment, such as fire-proof elements, plumbing, air-conditioning and heating facilities, are being installed. Plans for the museum's interior design are also being further developed.

The 28.45 meter museum consists of two parts, above ground and underground. Three floors above ground will function as a shared space lobby, public service area, showroom and office area while the underground floors will function as a warehouse, equipment room, and garage.

The museum is designed by Cui Kai, an outstanding architect in China. He not only adds the image of dragons into his designs but also obtains inspiration from historical grotto structures. As a result, the layout of the exhibition halls and public areas of the museum will be very unique, according to Bai.

The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of 2012. Upon completion the museum will be a multi-functional arts venue that will foster academic exchange and exhibitions. It will also serve to help protect art and culture as well as strengthen public service.
