Book of Datong sculptures released

Datong Sculpture Collection was released at the Chongqing Hall in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Jan 9. The book records ancient Datong sculptures in all ages and has taken scholars, sculptor and photographers nearly two years.

Feng Jicai, vice chairman of China Federation of Literary and art Circles, Shan Jixiang, director of State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Geng Yanbo, mayor of Datong and some experts of the editorial committee attended the ceremony.

Datong is a famous historic and cultural city and is known for its abundance of sculptures arts. To exhibit the culture globally, Datong kicked off a program to check the sculptures in June 2009. The program aimed to collect materials for the book was commanded by Feng and attracted many authorities of sculptures arts in China.

Datong Sculpture Collection comprises five parts, Yungang Grottoes, temple sculptures, architecture sculptures and sculptures in museums with nearly 2, 000 photos.
