The Shanxi Coking Coal Group Co Ltd, China’s largest coking coal producer, has a wide variety of top-quality products. Its headquarters are in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, and its subsidiaries include the Xishan Coal and Electricity Group Co Ltd, Fenxi Mining Group, Huozhou Coal Electricity Group Co Ltd, Huajin Coking Coal Co Ltd, Shanxi Coking Group Co Ltd, Coal Marketing Corp, and International Development Co Ltd.

This large group is mainly engaged in coal exploitation and processing and deals with companies in mine construction, machinery manufacturing, mechanical and electrical appliances, power generation, chemicals, architecture, building materials, transportation, import and export, and tertiary services.

It has 28 mines and 18 coal-washing plants and a production capacity of 65.8 million tons of raw coal annually, and a washing capacity of 45 million tons. At the end of 2004, it had total assets of 38.3 billion yuan ($6.07 billion), and 150,000 employees.

It has businesses in 25 counties and cities in Shanxi, including Taiyuan, Linfen, Yuncheng, Luliang, Xinzhou, Jinzhong and Changzhi and its coking coal and coke products are sold in 20 mainland provinces. They are also exported to Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Germany, India and Taiwan. Its mine machinery is used by many Chinese coal enterprises and the large excavation equipment is sold to Romania, the Philippines, Russia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong. The company is licensed to import and export coke and electromechanical devices and has a close strategic partnership with Germany’s Ruhr Group, Japan’s Nippon Steel, South Korea’s Pohang, and Chinese companies such as BaoSteel, Anshan Steel and Iron Works, the Shougang Corp, Wuhan Steel, and the Huaneng Group.

Shanxi coking is the second largest coking coal company in the world by production capacity. In 2004, it produced 55 million tons of coal, and had total sales of 18.3 billion yuan ($2.9billion). In the first nine months of 2005, it produced more than 44 million tons of coal, with sales of 16.8 billion yuan. 60 million tons coal in 2005, and have revenues of 22 billion yuan.

By 2010, the company will have 12 mine areas, 32 mines, and 27 coal separation plants. It will have an annual output of 120 million tons. It will produce 100 million tons of merchantable coal, increase its power generating capacity to 10GW, have a coke chemical production capacity of 10 million tons, and annual sales of 60 billion yuan. In this way, it will reach its strategic goal of joining the nation’s top 100 enterprises, be a leader in its industry, be operating many businesses, and be larger and stronger.
