Many volunteers, including expats, have recently volunteered in Shanghai's Jiading district's ongoing nucleic acid testing, including Douwe Schurer, a Dutchman.

Schurer, who is 51 years old and speaks Chinese fluently, was given the task of keeping order at the testing site. He has been reminding folks to follow the procedures, and encourages them to take the nucleic acid tests as well as consults with individuals at the testing facility.

The first day that Schurer dressed in the protective suit as a volunteer was March 14. Prior to that, he had been working from home due to the most recent COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai.

Schurer and his wife have lived in Jiangqiao town in Jiading district for over a decade. The couple chose to engage in community work to fight against the epidemic after seeing a recruiting notice for volunteers in their neighborhood.

Schurer is also a blood donor, having donated Rh-negative blood for the past 17 years.
