Construction of a new charging station for electric vehicles located on Hechang Road in Wuxi's Taihu New District was completed on Feb 23.

The station, designed for small electric cars, has eight charging piles in total. It is estimated that the charging costs of an electric vehicle are 60 percent cheaper than that of filling up a similar-sized petrol car.

In recent years, the local government has been actively promoting the use of new energy vehicles in the city. Another 5,000-square-meter charging station was also put into service in Binhu district in 2016. The station has 64 charging piles in total and has capacity for two electric buses to be charged simultaneously.
